A 19-year-old engineering student was rescued after she jumped into River Cauvery from the Karungalpalayam bridge here on Monday (June 8, 2026), allegedly due to financial difficulties in paying her college fees.Police identified her as S. Isywarya of Veerappanchatiram, a second-year B.E. student of a private college. Fishermen and members of the public who noticed the incident rushed to her aid and brought her ashore. She was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.Preliminary inquiries revealed that Monday was the last date for payment of her college fees and that her parents were unable to arrange the required amount, allegedly prompting her to take the extreme step.
