Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday carried out a mini reshuffle of his conservative cabinet, as speculation grows over a possible snap election in the autumn.
Giorgos Kotsiras, previously deputy minister for national economy and finance, has been appointed deputy transport minister, replacing Konstantinos Kyranakis, who is expected to be elected secretary-general of the ruling New Democracy party on Wednesday.
Kotsiras’ former post at the Finance Ministry will be taken by Dimitris Markopoulos, until now the ruling party’s parliamentary spokesperson. The role of parliamentary spokesperson will be filled by MP Stratos Simopoulos.
MP Marilena Soukouli has been appointed deputy environment and energy minister, replacing the late Nikos Tagaras, who recently died.
At the Foreign Ministry, Tasos Chatzivasileiou will serve as deputy minister for European affairs, a position that will include overseeing preparations for Greece’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union.
