Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to announce cabinet changes on Thursday, amid mounting speculation that the government may call early elections this autumn.
Konstantinos Kyranakis, the current deputy minister for transport, is expected to be elected as the ruling party’s new secretary-general on Wednesday. Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis is widely expected to replace Kyranakis, while Tassos Hatzivassiliou is set to return to the Foreign Ministry to prepare for the Greek EU presidency.
These changes are seen as evidence of the government’s readiness for a possible October election, following the Thessaloniki International Fair, amid the emergence of new parties and broader shifts in the political landscape.

EU defense ministers are meeting in Nicosia on Monday. According to Greek and Cypriot media reports, Turkish military aircraft and air traffic controllers in Turkish-occupied northern Cyprus harassed aircraft carrying Greek and European defense officials en route to the island late on Sunday. The incident occurred just hours before Cyprus and France were due to sign a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) on Monday, establishing the legal framework for the presence of French military personnel on the island.
