South Africa has the world's second-smallest freelancer gender pay gap

South Africa has one of the smallest gender pay gaps among freelance workers on major global online platforms.

This, according to a new international report by Remitly, which analysed the hourly rates of more than 58,000 freelancers on the Upwork platform across different countries and job categories.

Remitly is a US-founded financial technology company that provides international money transfers and cross-border payment services.

The study found that women globally charge about 19% less per hour than men for similar freelance work.
