Israel Defense Forces said Sunday night its air force “struck military targets belonging to the Iranian terror regime in western and central Iran” after Iran fired missiles toward Israel earlier in the day.The announcement comes hours after President Donald Trump told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “not to retaliate against Iran’s missile attack and allow more time for diplomacy,” according to Axios.
Explosions were heard in Tehran, according to Iranian state media.
The barrage of missiles Iran launched toward the Jewish state earlier on Sunday marked the first direct attack on Israel since a ceasefire was negotiated in early April.
This is a developing story that will be updated.
