The Israeli military announced on Monday morning, June 8, that its air force had targeted military sites affiliated with the Islamic Republic in western and central Iran.

The Israeli military's statement said: "A short while ago, the Israeli Air Force struck military targets belonging to the Iranian regime in western and central Iran."

The strikes were carried out hours after the Islamic Republic fired dozens of missiles toward Israel in response to an Israeli military attack on Dahiyeh, a southern suburb of Beirut. The Israeli military had previously announced that the country's air defense systems were activated to counter the attacks and that most of the missiles were intercepted. Coinciding with the strikes, local Iranian media reported hearing explosions in Tehran, Tabriz, and Isfahan.

The attacks took place despite US President Donald Trump stating hours earlier that he intended to contact Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to urge him to refrain from any retaliatory action in response to the Islamic Republic's missile attack.

Following Iran's missile attack on Israel, Trump also called on Tehran to halt its assaults and return to negotiations. Speaking to Fox News, he remarked, "You've fired your missiles; that's enough. Return to the negotiating table and make a deal."
