Schools across Israel will be closed Monday, public gatherings will be limited and beaches will be closed to the public.In a security discussion held by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with senior defense officials, the assessment was that Iran does not want to “break the rules” and is seeking to settle for a measured and limited response aimed at northern Israel. But an Israeli official said Iran “can forget about Israel letting this pass.”“The response will be harsh,” the official said. “We will not let them create any formulas or violate our sovereignty.”A short time before the launches, the IDF said that after a situational assessment, security forces were preparing for possible fire toward Israel in the coming hours.“The IDF has reinforced its defensive systems and is in readiness and high alert for a range of scenarios, both defensive and offensive,” the military said. “IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir and IDF commanders are currently holding situational assessments and closely monitoring developments.”The IDF later said missiles had been identified launching from Iran toward northern Israel. “Defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat,” the military said. “In the past few minutes, Home Front Command sent a precautionary directive directly to mobile phones in the relevant areas.”Under the updated Home Front Command policy, Israel has moved to limited activity nationwide. Educational activities are prohibited. Gatherings are permitted with up to 200 people outdoors and up to 500 people indoors, provided participants can reach a standard protected space in time during an alert.Workplaces may operate only if employees can reach a standard protected space in time.
