A 56-year-old German national arrested in Crete on suspicion of espionage has denied the charge.
The man, arrested Saturday, after allegedly photographing military aircraft, says photography is his hobby and that he did not know of restrictions regarding photographing military installations. He was on the island on a holiday with his wife and daughter, he said.
The man asked for time to prepare his defense and will face an examining magistrate and a prosecutor in the city of Hania Tuesday. The charges he faces are felonies.
Police are examining data from the man’s pro camera.
