Minister for Environment and Climate Change V.K. Rajeev, along with Ramanathapuram Collector M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran, on Sunday held a consultative meeting with representatives from welfare associations for differently abled persons here.Mr. Rajeev, who led the meeting, after receiving petitions from representatives of the associations, said the primary objective of the meeting was to ensure that the government schemes fully reached every single person with disabilities. In line with the objective, appropriate steps would be taken to conduct special camps to issue medical certificates, a key demand of the differently abled people.Similarly, swift action would be taken to provide loan assistance through banks to enable persons with disabilities to start self-employment ventures, he added.“In response to the request to establish a rehabilitation centre for individuals affected by spinal cord injuries, a suitable site will be selected and appropriate measures taken to ensure it functions effectively by appointing specialists, trainers, and other required officials,” Mr. Rajeev further said.Generally, differently abled people were endowed with mental strength and self-confidence. The government would pay special attention to their demands, ensure that appropriate welfare schemes reached the people, and fulfill the requests by organising special camps across all panchayat unions and municipalities in the district.Mr. Rajeev distributed retrofitted special petrol scooters worth ₹1 lakh each, totalling ₹9.16 lakh, to nine beneficiaries.
