SaharaReporters gathered that the victims were released on Saturday following months of captivity in insurgent-controlled areas.

A faction of Boko Haram identified as Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS) has released over 400 women and children from Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

SaharaReporters gathered that the victims were released on Saturday following months of captivity in insurgent-controlled areas.

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, the released women and children were seen seated on the ground while being addressed by individuals believed to be security personnel, with armed military officers surrounding the gathering.

Reacting to the development, President of the Borno South Youth Alliance (BOSYA), Samaila Ibrahim Kaigama, expressed delight over the release, describing it as the result of sustained advocacy, negotiations and humanitarian engagements.
