A legal practitioner, Marshal Abubakar, has called for an independent investigation into the death of 16-year-old Asar Sesugh, who was allegedly killed by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Makurdi, Benue State, while also demanding urgent reforms within the anti-graft agency.

In a statement titled "The Many Sesughs In The Hands Of EFCC, Why EFCC Need Urgent And Immediate Reform," Abubakar accused the commission of operating in ways that violate constitutional rights and undermine the rule of law.

According to the lawyer, Sesugh, a Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) student of New Educational Teaching Academic College, Makurdi, was allegedly killed on May 23, 2026.
