A distraught woman in Benue State, Ms Jennifer Atsar, has accused operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of unlawfully killing her 16-year-old son, Sesugh Atsar, days after releasing him on bail over allegations of internet fraud.
Speaking during an interview session, the 35-year-old trader told journalists that her son was neither a criminal nor a fraudster, insisting that the EFCC fabricated allegations against him after he was allegedly shot dead by one of its operatives in Makurdi on May 23, 2026.
Jennifer, who lives in the Kanshio area of Makurdi, said Sesugh was a secondary school student and an apprentice learning furniture-making before his life was cut short.
"I have five children and Sesugh was my first child. He was only 16 years old and would have turned 17 in December," she said.
