Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (HBCH&RC) in Visakhapatnam has recently celebrated its 12th Foundation Day, marking over a decade of dedicated cancer care in Eastern India.A centrepiece of the celebrations was the launch of “PRERANA – Inspiring Hope, Celebrating Life”, a monthly support group programme designed to provide holistic psychosocial support. The initiative facilitates shared learning and emotional well-being for patients, survivors, and caregivers.During the inaugural session, Director Umesh Mahantshetty stressed that comprehensive care must encompass rehabilitation and survivorship alongside clinical treatment.Chief guest Ayaskanta Jena, Head of Project at NTPC Simhadri, announced a major infrastructure expansion. Through an NTPC CSR initiative, the hospital is set to instal a 3 MW solar power plant and a state-of-the-art robotic surgery facility, significantly enhancing its diagnostic and treatment capabilities.The hospital also hosted its 4th Annual Cancer Congress, focusing on advances in thoracic and gastrointestinal malignancies, which represent 25-30% of adult cancer cases. The congress attracted approximately 130 delegates from across Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states.Expert sessions covered cutting-edge technologies, including Magnetic Resonance-guided Radiotherapy and immunotherapy.
