Superintendent of Police B. Umamaheswar on Saturday (June 6, 2026) distributed special protective kits to traffic police personnel. The kits included round hats, cooling glasses for day and night use, face masks, and ORS packets.Speaking on the occasion, the SP said that traffic personnel play a crucial role in maintaining road safety and directed them to work towards achieving a 20 per cent reduction in road accidents compared to the previous year. He noted that traffic police continue to serve the public under harsh weather conditions and deserve adequate protection and support. The SP stressed the importance of the district-wide “Shiroraksha–Pranaraksha” campaign launched on April 1 to promote helmet usage among two-wheeler riders. He said the objective was to encourage voluntary helmet use for personal safety rather than out of fear of penalties or traffic challans.Observing that a higher number of road accidents involve two-wheeler riders not wearing helmets, he called upon traffic personnel to create public awareness of road safety norms. “Every road accident death affects an entire family,” he said, adding that reducing accidents by 20 per cent would save many lives and protect numerous families from tragedy.
