COTABATO CITY— The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) police announced on Saturday the arrest of a suspected member of the Dawlah Islamiya-Hassan Group (DI-HG) linked to the ambush that killed five police officers in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur last March.

Brig. Gen. Christopher Abecia, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), identified the suspect as Nickson Gayak Kamangon, also known as “Nexon,” who was listed as the No. 1 most wanted person in Maguindanao del Sur and No. 9 most wanted in the BARMM.

Abecia said Kamangon was arrested at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the General Santos City International Airport while undergoing security screening prior to boarding a flight for Manila.

The arrest resulted from a joint law enforcement operation involving personnel from PRO-BAR, Police Regional Office 12, intelligence units, the Aviation Security Unit, the Army’s 601st Infantry Brigade, and other law enforcement agencies in General Santos City.
