Most stocks edged upward at the Athinon Avenue on Friday, but their advance did not suffice to offset all losses that the benchmark had incurred during the week, resulting in a negative result compared to the previous Friday. All this was done on relatively low turnover, almost identical to that of Thursday. The local bourse closed for the weekend before Wall Street saw its indexes plummet due to pressure on technology stocks.

The Euronext Athens (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,355.67 points, adding 0.65% to Thursday’s 2,340.49 points. On a weekly basis it declined 0.72%.

The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 0.67%, ending at 5,968.91 points, though mid-caps contracted 0.14%.

The banks index improved 1.14%, as National grew 2.69%, Eurobank rose 1.64%, Bank of Cyprus climbed 0.26% and Alpha collected 0.22%, while Piraeus gave up 0.23%.

In total 57 stocks registered gains, 47 suffered losses and 21 remained unchanged.
