The Institute of Town Planners India (ITPI), Telangana Regional Chapter, organised the World Environment Day 2026 celebrations on June 5, 2026, at ITPI, Begumpet, Hyderabad, under the global theme ‘Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.’Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) managing director Ashok Reddy spoke as the chief guest and stressed the need for collective efforts to protect natural resources and build resilient cities for future generations.ITPI regional chapter chairperson and director of town and country planning, S. Devendar Reddy, emphasised the critical role of planners in promoting environmentally sustainable and climate-resilient urban development.Telangana Forest Development Corporation (TGFDC), under its eco-tourism initiative ‘Deccan Woods & Trails’, celebrated the day with active participation of nearly 80 volunteers from leading organisations including Cognizant, Trouw Nutrition India Pvt. Ltd. (Nutreco company), and Nirmaan Organization.The programme included seed ball preparation, nursery visit, and a plantation drive, all conducted at the Botanical Garden with active participation of the volunteers.An awareness talk was subsequently organised under the global theme where botanist and naturalists highlighted the urgent need for environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, pollution reduction and sustainable resource management.
