The United States Central Command, CENTCOM, has denied claims made by the Islamic Republic’s Army regarding the firing of missiles and drones toward US destroyers in the Sea of Oman.
On Friday morning, June 5, Iranian media outlets, citing the army, reported that its navy had fired “Qadir missiles and new attack drones” as a “warning” toward two US destroyers, and that the two destroyers subsequently left the Sea of Oman toward the Indian Ocean.
An hour after the publication of this statement, CENTCOM announced on the X platform: “Iranian forces did NOT attack or fire at U.S. Navy warships. Doing so would be a gross violation of the ceasefire.”
CENTCOM’s announcement emphasized the continuation of the naval blockade of Iran, which began in late April. Mediation efforts to reach an agreement that could end the tension and conflict between Tehran and Washington are still ongoing. Nevertheless, sporadic clashes continue to occur in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.
Donald Trump has said that Operation “Epic Fury,” which began on February 28 with Israel’s participation against Iran and led to a 40-day war, has concluded, and that the ceasefire has not been violated.
