Tension prevailed at Thatchanallur here on Friday after miscreants damaged the statue of St. Antony in a church there on Thursday night.The locals said the accused, who would consume ganja or alcohol while sitting on the roadside in the night and cause problems to the passers-by and the people living in nearby houses, were partying on Thursday also. In an inebriated condition, they threw a granite stone at the St. Antony’s statue kept in a glass receptacle. The granite stone smashed the glass door and damaged it.After damaging the statue, the drunk gang also tried to smash the windscreens of the vehicles parked along the road. As the police on night patrol arrived at the spot, the hooligans also hurled stones on the police vehicle and fled the spot.The Thatchanallur police are on the lookout for the troublemakers.
