As part of the planning for presenting the budget for 2026-27, the Puducherry government on Friday held a consultative meeting at the Chief Secretariat. Attended by Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, the pre-budget meeting saw detailed presentations by Secretary Finance Krishna Mohan Uppu and Secretary Planning A. Muthamma.The officials made presentations on fiscal health, explaining ongoing schemes, funds needed for infrastructure works, priority areas and other expenditure commitments. Mr. Kailashnathan, in his address, emphasised the need for job creation. He stressed the need for undertaking projects through Public Private Partnership mode, improving ease of doing business, according priority to infrastructure development and hospitality sector.“Currently, we are meeting our expenditure requirements with a vote on account of ₹5,396 crore presented by the Chief Minister in February. The Assembly sanction for the expenditure was only till August and before that we need to present the annual budget. The Friday’s meeting was a pre-budget consultative meeting. The draft outlay for 2026-27 will be worked out soon for approval from the Finance and Home Ministries,” a government source said.The source added the last financial year had ended on a positive note with overall receipts showing a growth of around 8.36%. The annual budget for the financial year 2025-26 has gone up to ₹14,100 crore, from ₹13,235 crore in the financial year 2024-25, which is a growth of 6.54%. Puducherry’s overall revenue inflow in 2025-26, according to the source was around ₹13,397 crore. The largest single contributor to the total financial inflow during the last financial year was tax receipts which runs to around ₹4,617 crore. The revenue generated through financial sources other than direct and indirect tax was around ₹3,013 crore. While the Central assistance for the fiscal was around ₹3,737 crore, the borrowings was around ₹2,028 crore, the source said.“Considering the fiscal position, support from the Centre and borrowing capabilities, the outlay for the current financial year will certainly go up substantially,” the source said.Others who attended the meeting, included Pro-tem Speaker A. Anbalagan, Ministers A. Namassivayam, Malladi Krishna Rao, DMK leader in house A.M.H Nazeem, Chief Secretary Sharat Chauhan, Director General of Police Shalini Singh and secretaries.
