The vision of CTX Train

Several AI generated videos showing what a rail connected Cape Town could look like had social media users excited. The ambitious proposal to create a rail network linking Cape Town International Airport to major destinations across the Western Cape was widely welcomed, despite uncertainty surrounding the project after the City of Cape Town, Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), Passenger Rai Agency of South Africa (Prasa) and Cape Winelands Airport all indicated they have no formal involvement in it.

The proposed CapeTrainx, also referred to on social media as the CapeTrain Express, has generated excitement online through a vision of a rail network connecting Cape Town International Airport to the Cape Town CBD, Helderberg, Cape Flats, Southern Suburbs, West Coast, Northern Suburbs, Paarl, Stellenbosch and the planned Cape Winelands Airport.

According to information shared on CapeTrain Express Projects' social media platforms, the network would offer "fast and efficient regional access to Cape Town's aviation ecosystem".

The proposal further states that a key component of the project would be a direct rail link between Cape Town International Airport and Cape Winelands Airport.
