Volunteers at the sort-and-deliver day of the Sewa International South Africa Winter Warmth 2026 Blanket Drive.

Winter bites hardest in a country where the cost of living leaves many families choosing between food and warmth, the season is not just uncomfortable, it is dangerous. That is why, over the past few weeks, Sewa International South Africa set out to play their part in making a positive change.

The result was nearly 2,000 blankets, delivered to five children’s homes, four old age homes, five animal shelters, homeless individuals on the streets, and struggling families taken under the organisation’s wing.

The campaign, which culminated last weekend with a sort‑and‑deliver day in Umhlanga Ridge, raised approximately R117,142 and collected 1,810 blankets through donations, crowdfunding and small business partnerships.

On a chilly Sunday afternoon, programme coordinator Shailan Nundkumar reflected on the purpose behind the organisation’s work.
