Just two hours from Athens, Mt Dirfys is the perfect destination for a one-day hiking escape.
“Be patient, the summit will reward you,” a hiker on his way down Mt Dirfys tells us as we continue our ascent. We’ve already been walking for about an hour and a half and are beginning to wonder whether the peak is really as close as it appears.
The highest mountain in Evia, Mt Dirfys rises to 1,743 meters and dominates the island’s central region above the village of Steni. Although it’s only a two-hour drive from Athens, the landscape makes you feel as though you are much farther from the capital.
