Travelers flying out of Boston Logan International Airport can now skip the line at airport security with a "first-in-the-nation" remote screening option, according to the Transportation Security Administration. On June 1, TSA and the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), which operates the Boston hub, launched the pilot program, Logan Airport Remote Terminal at Framingham, to "enhance the traveler experience," according to a June 3 news release by the federal agency."Instead of dealing with traffic at the airport, congestion at the checkpoint, and limited parking, these passengers can instead park at Framingham, check in, go through security, and take a bus directly to the secure side of their terminal," TSA said in the release."This pilot program is all about creating options for our travelers," said TSA Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Acting Administrator Ha Nguyen McNeill in a June 3 news release. "Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, TSA is constantly looking at new ways we can make the checkpoint experience smoother and faster for passengers, while our security posture remains equally strong."TSA said it is working to roll out more remote passenger screening options across the United States. How does the pilot program work? The pilot program is available only to Delta and JetBlue passengers with flights from 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the release. At Framingham, air passengers will check in with their airline and go through TSA before boarding a "dedicated, secure bus" by third-party contractor Landline Company that'll take them to the airport. Their bags will be sent right through the baggage system."This forward-thinking program is exactly the kind of innovation we want to be part of – elevating the journey and getting people to their destination seamlessly," said Charlie Schewe, Delta's director of sales - East, in the May 18 release. "We’re excited to work alongside Massport to bring this to life."How do you sign up?To participate in the program, travelers must make reservations no later than 90 minutes before their flight departure and no more than 90 days in advance. It will cost $9 one way, with the return trip via the Framingham LEX service.Children under 18 are free if traveling with a ticketed adult."As this is a pilot with limited seating, we encourage passengers to book early and allow for some flexibility as the program gets underway," Massport said in the undefined release. Reservations can be made online at Massport's website.
