Flying from Boston Logan International Airport soon? You could go through TSA security before arriving at the airport — once there, you can head straight to your gate.Starting June 1, the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), which operates the Boston hub, is launching a "first-of-its-kind" pilot program called the Logan Airport Remote Terminal at Framingham to streamline air travel, according to a May 18 news release. The pilot program will operate in partnership with the Landline Company, a third-party contractor. The new program promises "a calmer travel experience," according to the website, by having air passengers from Metro West check in and do security screening not at the airport, but at a remote terminal in Framingham. Then they arrive at the airport by bus, bypass security lines, and go straight to their gate."The Remote Terminal pilot program is part of Massport’s broader vision to reimagine the travel experience and make the passenger journey more seamless, connected, and efficient," said Rich Davey, CEO of Massport, in a news release. “Passengers in and around Metro West now have a new, low-stress way to reach Boston Logan. Imagine arriving at the airport having already checked in and cleared security and then being dropped off just steps from your gate. This is the kind of stress-free process we’re working to make a reality for everyone."In the release, Massport said the remote terminal expands upon the Logan Express system (LEX), a high-occupancy bus transportation program that delivers travelers directly to the terminal curb from five locations in Boston. In 2025, 2.7 million people used the LEX system, with Framingham being the busiest location in the network. How does the pilot program work? The pilot program is available only to Delta and JetBlue passengers with flights from 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the news release, though there are plans to expand access to more airlines in the future. At Framingham, air passengers will check in with their airline and go through TSA before boarding a "dedicated, secure bus" that'll take them to the airport. Their bags will be sent right through the baggage system."This forward-thinking program is exactly the kind of innovation we want to be part of – elevating the journey and getting people to their destination seamlessly," said Charlie Schewe, Delta's director of sales - East, in the release. "We’re excited to work alongside Massport to bring this to life."How do you sign up?To participate in the program, travelers must make reservations no later than 90 minutes before their flight departure and no more than 90 days in advance. It will cost $9 one way, with the return trip via the Framingham LEX service."As this is a pilot with limited seating, we encourage passengers to book early and allow for some flexibility as the program gets underway," Massport said in the undefined release. Reservations can be made online at Massport's website.
