An irate man disturbing neighbours from an alleyway allegedly threw tent poles at attending police before he was tasered and then bitten by a police dog.

Police were called to an alleyway near Crammond Ave, in the Dunedin suburb of Corstorphine, following reports of a man threatening to kill property owners on Thursday at 10.30pm.

The man also attempted to climb over fences and throw items onto properties, Sergeant Matthew Lee said.

When police arrived, the man was located in the alley. He became aggressive, Lee said, hurling tent poles towards officers and threatening to kill them.

A taser was used on the man, and he was also bitten on the calf by a police dog.
