An inner city resident stabbed an intoxicated man three times in an alleyway near his home, after earlier telling the man to be quiet.
Shawn Michael Taylor, 24, appeared for sentencing a charge of wounding with reckless disregard for the safety of the victim before Judge David Robinson in the Dunedin District Court on Wednesday afternoon.
The court heard that he had been in custody following the September 26, 2025 incident.
The 20-year-old victim had been at a nearby bar when he and some associates went down an alleyway on Dunedin’s George St, near Taylor’s address, the court heard.
Taylor told the men to be quiet and to leave. When they failed to do either, he later armed himself with a large knife and went to confront the man and his friend.
