Police arrested 10 persons in connection to an attempted murder case in SPSR Nellore district on Thursday. The incident took place around midnight on Tuesday on the banks of Penna river at Mudivarthipalem village in Indukurpet mandal, when the victims were returning from an orchestra programme.According to the police, the injured have been identified as Shaik Nagur Babu and his brother Shaik Shafi, residents of Kudithipalem village.Police said: “Nagur Babu had married Masuri Smiley in 2024, but she later died by suicide in 2025. A case had been registered against Shaik Nagur Babu and his family members. They were arrested and then released on bail.”The Smiley brothers —Masuri Bunny and Masuri Chakri— relatives of the deceased, were allegedly waiting for an opportunity to take revenge. On Tuesday night, they reportedly attacked Shaik Nagur Babu with beer bottles near the Shiva temple on the banks of the Penna river. When Shafi tried to stop them, one of the accused Bunny attacked him and injured him, said the police. Hearing Shafi’s cries for help, the locals rushed to the spot. Seeing the crowd, the accused fled on three motorcycles.Shaik Nagur Babu was admitted to the Narayana Hospital for treatment. A case has been registered and the investigation is being carried out as per the instructions of SP Dr. Ajitha Vejandla, Additional SP Ch. Soujanya, and Nellore Rural DSP G. Srinivasa Rao.
