The office of the Sub-Registrar in Bodinayakkanur was checked by the officials from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Thursday.Following complaints of bribery for registration, the government had directed the DVAC sleuths to enhance surveillance and intensify monitoring mechanism. Apart from the vulnerable locations, the officials were also directed to check the documents at random on the value and for other specific details, a DVAC officer said.The profiles of the Sub-Registrars, their office aides and other subordinate staff at their residences also came under scrutiny. On Thursday, the DVAC officials checked the mobile phones of a few of the suspects and also the public who had come for registration at the Bodi Sub-Registrar office.Similar checks were held at Sivaganga, Karaikudi and Kodaikanal Sub-Registrar offices during the day, the officials said and added that they physically examined a few of the suspects, who aided the officials in getting the documents registered.There were also checks at Madurai - Vilangudi and Pothumbu sub-registrar offices as well. A few of the high value documents were taken in for discreet checks which were brought in for registration before the SR concerned.Registration and Commercial Taxes Minister Lokesh Tamilselvan arrived at the Thirupparankundram Sub-Registrar office in Madurai and conducted inspection. Many officials in the SR office was taken aback as they were unaware of the minister’s arrival.An official in the district said that they had no information about the Minister’s programme and only after he started inquiry, the officials came to know about it.
