The Mangaluru City Corporation has filled a recently dug-up trench in the middle of the Attavara Main Road with soil, in Mangaluru on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner H. V. Darshan on Thursday, directed civic agencies not to undertake any new works except those necessary for the monsoon season in the backdrop of the rainy season beginning in the region.Chairing the disaster management plan meeting for Mangaluru City Corporation here, Mr. Darshan said roads dug up in various projects already undertaken should be restored to their original condition immediately and completed. The DC directed to take strict action to remove encroachments that are obstructing the smooth flow of rainwater.Action should be taken to immediately remove construction materials and debris from private construction works on the roadside and footpath. Dangerous trees should be removed immediately. Mr. Darshan directed that surveys of houses damaged by heavy rains should be conducted within 48 hours and a report be submitted.He said that the ward-wise incident commanders appointed for the monsoon season preparation in MCC should always be available to serve the public. They should visit every place in their ward and focus on mitigating rain damage.He suggested that coordination should be achieved with departments concerned including forest, fire department and control room. Traffic congestion on highways and roads should be cleared immediately, he said.Additional DC K. Raju warned that if government employees appointed for monsoon and disaster management neglect their duties, action will be taken against them under the Disaster Management Act.Deputy Commissioner of Police H.
