Following rain forecast for Bengaluru by the India Meteorological Department, Bengaluru, chief civic commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao reviewed rain preparedness in the city on Tuesday and instructed civic officials to prioritise filling potholes and monitor flood-prone areas.
Directing officials to expedite the filling of potholes, Mr. Rao asked officials to prioritise arterial and sub-arterial roads and complete pothole repair work. He also asked officials to use cold mix to fill potholes during the rains.
“Work on roads identified for asphalting must be completed swiftly to ensure smooth vehicular movement,” he said.
Mr. Rao also said: “With heavy rainfall predicted, special attention must be given to flood-prone zones. Any existing issues in such areas must be addressed with permanent solutions to avoid disruptions.”
He directed civic officials to install water pumps permanently in flood-prone Sai Layout to pump out water to prevent water stagnation in the area. “A jackwell has already been constructed by the Bangalore Development Authority to pump out water, and the BBMP has been instructed to permanently install pumpsets in the area to prevent flooding. Additionally, officials have been directed to expedite the completion of railway vent works,” he said.
