Pre-monsoon winds and rain have damaged Mangalore Electricity Supply company Ltd., (Mescom) assets to a tune of ₹11.73 crore, including electricity poles and transformers.MESCOM in a release here said from April 1 to June 1, extensive damage was caused by wind and rain in Chikkamagaluru and Dakshina Kannada districts. In Dakshina Kannada, assets worth ₹318.66 lakh were damaged and in Chikkamagaluru district, assets worth ₹321.4 lakh were damaged. While Udupi district witnessed assets damage to a tune of ₹221.62 lakh, Shivamogga district saw damage to a tune of ₹312 lakh.During the period, 8,147 electric poles were damaged due to wind and rain in the four districts under the jurisdiction of Mescom. The maximum number of poles, 2,797, were in Shivamogga district, followed by 2,438 in Dakshina Kannada, 1,031 in Udupi and 881 poles in Chikkamagaluru district. The damaged electric poles have been replaced, Mescom said.Similarly, a total of 12 power transformers were damaged in Dakshina Kannada and 17 in Shivamogga district.In addition, 228.05 km of power lines were damaged, including 121.9 km in Dakshina Kannada district, 11.7 km in Udupi, 37.62 km in Chikkamagaluru and 56.83 km in Shivamogga district.
