The police have registered a case against the former BJP MLA from Kalaburagi South Constituency Dattatraya Patil Revoor over his remarks saying that Congress leaders and the State government are making attempts to turn Kalaburagi into “Pakistan”.The case was registered at the Station Bazaar Police Station following a complaint by social activist Azgar Yusuf Hussain.Police sources said that a case has been registered under Sections 353(1)(b) and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is under way.Mr. Revoor made the remarks during a BJP protest staged in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Kalaburagi on Monday against the State government’s decision to withdraw cases related to the Aland communal violence. The protest was led by BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra.Addressing a gathering, Mr. Revoor referred to the former Minister Qamar-ul-Islam and said that he [Islam] had once spoken of making Kalaburagi a “chhota Pakistan” (mini Pakistan). He claimed that while earlier leaders had failed in such an attempt, the present leaders and the government are once again trying to shape Kalaburagi on the lines of Pakistan.Further, he went on to say that Mr. Islam had lost an election to his father, the late Chandrashekar Patil Revoor, after making such a statement, and asserted that the people will once again teach a lesson to present-day Congress leaders whom he accused of trying to turn Kalaburagi into “Pakistan”.A video of the speech has been in wide circulation on social media, triggering criticism and prompting the complaint. Based on the complaint, the Station Bazaar Police registered the case.Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) leader Syed Aleem Ilahi accused the district administration of delaying action against Dattatreya Patil Revoor for his remarks against Congress leader Qamar-ul-Islam. He said that the protest was intended to target the Muslim community and that the speech contained derogatory remarks against Muslims, while also criticising Congress leaders and the district administration for their handling of the matter.Although the speech was made on June 1, the police did not take suo motu cognizance. A case was registered only on Wednesday after the social activist submitted a formal complaint, Mr. Ilahi said. Published - June 04, 2026 08:48 pm IST
