Police have registered a case against former Union Minister and expelled BJP leader Basanagouda Patil Yatnal for a provocative speech during a visit to Maddur, in Karnataka, on September 11. Mr. Yatnal is the MLA from Vijayapura in north Karnataka.
Police said that an FIR had been registered against Mr. Yatnal under Section 196 (1) of BNS that pertains to promoting enmity between groups based on religion, Section 299 of BNS pertaining to outraging religious feelings, and Section 353 (2) of BNS dealing with statements conducive to public mischief.
