The Upparpet Police have registered a case against a former BJP MLA and others for violating High Court orders by protesting outside the Freedom Park recently.

Based on a complaint filed by Police Sub Inspector Maruthi G., former BJP MLA from Kudachi P. Rajeev, BJP district president S. Harish, and others were charged under section 190 (unlawful assembly) and 285 (danger or obstruction in a public way or line of navigation, criminalising acts or omissions that cause harm, obstruction, or danger to the public in these spaces) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023, and also under various sections of the Karnataka Police Act, 1963, for further investigation.

According to the FIR, a permission was granted for a protest led by BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra, who was opposing the State government’s internal reservation policy, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on September 10. The protests were strictly restricted to the Freedom Park as per a High Court order dated March 3, 2022.

At around 10 a.m., a group of around 5,000 party workers led by Mr. Vijayendra gathered at the venue for the protests. However, Mr. Rajeev allegedly violated the High Court order by leading a group of around 200 outside the park for demonstrations, thereby blocking the road near the Skywalk at Seshadri Junction.
