In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its Executive Director, Gbenga Soloki, the organisation remembered Kudirat Abiola, wife of the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola, who was assassinated on June 4, 1996.
The Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) has paid tribute to the late Alhaja Kudirat Olayinka Abiola on the 30th anniversary of her assassination, describing her as a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to democracy.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its Executive Director, Gbenga Soloki, the organisation remembered Kudirat Abiola, wife of the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola, who was assassinated on June 4, 1996.
According to CAIDOV, Kudirat was killed by agents of the military regime because of her role in the pro-democracy struggle following the annulment of the June 12 election and the detention of her husband.
"Today marks 30 years since the assassination of Alhaja Kudirat Olayinka Abiola, wife of the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola. She was murdered by agents of the military junta on 4 June 1996 for daring to stand solidly behind her husband and the democratic mandate Nigerians freely gave," the statement said.
