The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded that the State Government encourage State run education and bring in stringent regulations to control exorbitant fee charged by the private educational institutions. The CPI(M) has expressed concern that private sector has taken control of education sector and turned it into a lucrative business worth over ₹25,000 crore, taking advantage of absence of fee regulation mechanism. Coupled with this is the absence of amenities and teachers in the government schools forcing parents to send their children to private educational institutions.Party State secretary John Wesley expressed concern over the absence of medicines and staff, including doctors, in the government hospitals, giving scope for private sector healthcare providers to fleece people. The party had therefore decided to conduct State wide tour for three months till August to understand the situation at the grass root level. The visit would be followed by a public meeting in Hyderabad against the alleged moves of the government to privatise health and education sectors. The CPI(M) leader outlined various other problems, including the government’s failure to fill two lakh vacant posts and denial of supply of essentials at subsidised prices through public distribution system. While 14 different items were supplied through fair price shops in the past, the present government had confined it to just rice, he alleged. He demanded that the government implement its promise of enhancing pensions being paid to different categories and resolve issued faced by the pensioners. Steps should be taken to provide at least 120 sq. yds land to shelterless poor, he said. Published - June 04, 2026 07:15 pm IST
