Namakkal District Collector L. Madhubalan on Thursday (June 4) said all mofussil buses and omni buses will enter the Old Bus Stand to pick up passengers from Friday. In a release, Mr. Madhubalan said that to avoid traffic congestion outside the Old Bus Stand, all buses heading to Thuraiyoor, Mohanur, Tiruchi and Senthamangalam from Namakkal New Bus Stand will enter the Old Bus Stand to pick up and drop off passengers. Likewise, omni buses operated from Namakkal Park Road to Chennai and other places at night will enter the Old Bus Stand from Friday. It may be noted that mofussil buses stopped entering the Old Bus Stand and began dropping off passengers outside it after the inauguration of the Namakkal New Bus Stand in November 2024. This was especially so for buses headed for Thuraiyoor, Mohanur, Tiruchi and Senthamangalam, and passengers were forced to wait outside the Old Bus Stand, in rain and under the scorching sun, to catch these buses.Passengers and traders had been demanding that the authorities instruct the buses to enter the Old Bus Stand. Before the elections, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) had promised to address this problem. The New Bus Stand at Mudalaipatti on the Salem-Namakkal National Highway was built at ₹20 crore and inaugurated by the then Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in November 2024. Published - June 04, 2026 06:36 pm IST
