Municipal Administration Minister K. N. Nehru flagged off town bus services to 15 destinations from the renovated Old Bus Stand at Tiruvarur on October 1.

Town bus services connecting Tiruvarur Government Medical College Hospital (at Vilamal on the outskirts of Tiruvarur town), Koradacheri, Needamangalam, Adavankudi, Perunkadambanur, Alivalam, Vadakarai, Nagore, Thittacheri, Odacheri, Nannilam, Mayiladuthurai, Thirukollikadu, Thiruthuraipoondi and Moganur were flagged off by the Minister on the bus stand premises.

Industries Minister T. R. B. Raaja, Nagapattinam Lok Sabha MP V. Selvaraj, Tiruvarur MLA Poondi K. Kalaivanan, Collector V. Mohanachandran and others participated.

The old bus stand has been reconstructed as a bus terminus-cum-shopping complex at a cost of ₹16.30 crore under the Kalaignar Nagarpura Mempattu Thittam. Bus bays to accommodate 15 public transport vehicles have been provided.

Spaces for setting up 176 shops, having different plinth area specifications, have been created on the premises with 61 on the ground floor and 59 on the first floor of block one, 10 each in ground and first floors of block two and 24 and 12 on the ground and first floors, respectively, at block three on the premises named as ‘Muthamizharignar Kalaignar Town Bus Stand’.
