Residents of Vengarayankudikadu and nearby hamlets on the outskirts of Thanjavur demand that the minibus service connecting their habitat with the town be operated as per the old minibus scheme.
According to official sources, the minibus service introduced a few decades ago served as a vital and reliable transportation link for residents as the service was made available to them from 5.30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Residents of Vengarayankudikadu, Nanjikottai, Sooriyampatti, G. Vallundampattu, N. Vallundampattu, and Adhinampattu benefited from this service operated for around 10 trips a day between Vengarayankudikadu and Ayyasamy Vandaiyar Memorial Bus Stand (Thanjavur Old Bus Stand) at the heart of the Thanjavur town.
However, after the recent launch of the New Comprehensive Minibus Scheme, the number of trips had been restricted to four a day.
Alleging that the steep reduction in the number of trips of the minibus had caused hardship to them, especially to students, office-goers, and businessmen or traders, the residents demanded the restoration of the minibus service as per the old scheme.
