The police on Wednesday arrested a Rajasthan native in connection with the murder of a Coimbatore youth, whose body was found in a drainage near Syrian Church in the city.The police said Narpat Singh (38) of Jalore in Rajasthan was arrested for murdering Abuthahir Basha (27), who had been residing near Pasuvannan Kovil within the jurisdiction of the R.S. Puram police station.Investigators said that Singh, who had been residing near Theppakulam ground at R.S. Puram, ran a mobile phone accessories shop in R.S. Puram area. Singh used to borrow money from Basha, who had been lending for interest. The police said that Singh allegedly failed to repay the money that he had borrowed from Basha and demanded further financial assistance, leading to a dispute between the two.Singh allegedly strangled Basha, stole his gold ring and dumped the corpse in a drainage near the Syrian Church.The police zeroed in on Singh based on surveillance camera visuals and other evidence.
