Once upon a time, he was a humble tiffin delivery boy. Today, he is the brains behind one of the most popular education channels on YouTube with more than 94 lakh subscribers. Meet Ashu Ghai, the man behind the immensely popular channel Science and Fun on YouTube. Positivity portal The Better India recently shared his story. Ashu lost his father at the tender age of two. The family went through economic struggles and his mother had to sell shampoos to support the family. A star student, Ashu began supporting his family from a young age. He started delivering tiffins to people. However, he found his true calling in teaching. By the time he was a student of 10th grade, he was already teaching students from the 9th grade. He gradually realised that science teaching can be made more fun and less dependent on rote learning and memorisation. So in 2009, he and his brother founded Om Sai Ram Academy. For a year, only two students enrolled. But Ashu persisted and made learning about scientific concepts fun and engaging. Soon the coaching centre flourished. However tragedy struck. A poor real estate deal wiped out almost all of their savings. Their family had to sell house and jewellery, but Ashu refused to sell the academy and even refused an offer of Rs 80 crore. Listening to his wife’s suggestion, he turned to YouTube. Due to his engaging and relatable content, his videos went viral and his channel gained subscribers rapidly. Today, his channel has nearly 95 lakh subscribers and 3.7 billion views. Ghai is active on Instagram too. His Instagram page boasts of over 1.2 million followers.
