Online publishers in the UK are to be given a choice to exclude their content from being used to power Google’s AI features, including AI Overviews and AI Mode, under a Conduct Requirement handed down by the Consumer and Markets Authority.

The CMA noted that the controls being provided to UK publishers would not affect publishers’ search rankings.

The CMA said the rule also requires Google to ensure publisher content is properly attributed, using clear links.
