According to Vietnam's National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF), the depression was located approximately 270 kilometers east of the Paracel Islands as of 7 a.m. on Thursday.
The system is currently packing maximum sustained winds of 49 kph (30 mph), equivalent to Beaufort force 6, with gusts reaching up to 75 kph.
It is moving northeast at roughly 25 kph. Forecasters expect it to maintain this speed and trajectory over the next 48 to 72 hours, tracking away from the East Sea toward Taiwan. It is not expected to threaten Vietnam's mainland.
However, under the influence of the depression, the eastern part of the northern East Sea will experience winds of 49 kph, gusts up to 75 kph, and waves reaching 2 to 4 meters. Ships operating in these areas are advised to stay on alert for thunderstorms and waterspouts.
