Incumbent Seoul mayor Oh Se-hoon of the People Power Party (PPP) staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Democratic Party (DP) candidate Chong Won-o in the mayoral race.

Oh secured a fifth term as Seoul mayor, becoming the first person in the city's electoral history to do so, after edging out Chong in a race that remained too close to call until the final stages of the vote count.
