As Cyprus continues to grapple with water shortages and recurring drought conditions, authorities are launching a nationwide effort to help households save water, one tap and shower at a time.

The Water Development Department announced that it has begun the gradual distribution of free water-saving devices to homes and businesses across the island as part of a broader national campaign to encourage more responsible water use.

The rollout is starting in Paphos before expanding to the rest of Cyprus over the coming months.

In total, around 75,000 free kits will be distributed to households and premises. Each package will contain four faucet aerators and two shower flow reducers, simple devices that can be attached to existing taps and showerheads to reduce water consumption.

Officials say the equipment can cut water use by up to 30% without affecting comfort or noticeably changing the user experience. In other words, most people are unlikely to notice a difference in their daily routine, except perhaps when the water bill arrives.
