The decision to include island municipalities in the water management program was signed on Wednesday by Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou at the ministry.
Through this program, “Interventions for the Provision of Drinking Water and Water Management,” a total budget exceeding €15 million is being allocated to fund 10 projects across nine island municipalities: Naxos, Skopelos, Amorgos, Astypalaia, Rhodes, Leros, Alonnisos, Zakynthos and Crete.
These projects aim to improve water supply conditions in the beneficiary municipalities by reducing water leakage through the repair and upgrading of aging networks.
They also increase water availability through the construction of new distribution networks and ensure adequate supply in areas facing water scarcity through the installation of new desalination units, as well as related supporting infrastructure.
