Red Baron has released the documentary film Soaring, which follows three athletes who are set to compete in this summer’s Special Olympics. The frozen pizza brand is an official sponsor of the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, which will take place in Minnesota’s Twin Cities from June 20 to 26. The trailer for the documentary droppedon YouTube and Red Baron’s website May 28, and the full 47-minute film was released June 3.Narrated by gymnast and four-time Olympic medalist Shawn Johnson East, the documentary features athletes Paige Trombley, Elizabeth “Liz” Viele and Jenny Hill training in private sessions with Johnson East. It also features interviews with the athletes, family members and coaches exploring their journeys to the Games.“These athletes don’t just inspire people around them; they inspire me,” said Johnson East in a statement. “Watching Paige, Liz and Jenny chase their goals reminded me of everything I love about this sport and why it matters.” Trombley’s story traces her recovery from a shoulder injury; she has been competing since high school in gymnastics and volleyball, and she works at a school advocating for children with autism.Viele, a Special Olympics health messenger — an athlete trained to serve as a health and wellness leader — will compete at the Games for the first time this year but has competed in local Special Olympics events for decades in basketball, gymnastics, bowling, cross-country skiing, flag football and softball. Hill, who was formerly nonverbal but gained the confidence to speak through sports, has competed for more than 27 years in golf, basketball, bocce, swimming, gymnastics, softball, powerlifting, bowling and figure skating.Nearly 3,000 athletes from around the country will compete in the Special Olympics USA Games across 16 team and individual sports. Events will be hosted throughout the Twin Cities at locations such as the University of Minnesota’s sports facilities and the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota.Johnson East — who has won 10 gold medals at the Olympics, Gymnastics World Championships, Pan American Games and the American Cup — retired from gymnastics in 2012 and is now a content creator and Special Olympics ambassador. She and her husband, former NFL player Andrew East, have become entrepreneurs, amassing a social media following of nearly 14 million and starting a popular YouTube channel and podcast. Previous brand partnerships for Johnson East include Wayfair, Rubbermaid and CVS; alongside her husband, she has partnered with the fast-casual chain Crisp & Green and diaper brand Pura.Red Baron’s Soaring joins a growing trend of branded documentary productions that highlight athlete backstories and the importance of their support systems, and more broadly explore social issues around certain brands and events. These include the sports documentaries and docuseries from New York Life, Chobani, Roku and Dick’s Sporting Goods that focus on the U.S. Men’s National Team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as well as GEICO’s docuseries timed to March Madness that featured three women’s basketball stars. Outside of sports, Square, M&M’s and BLK have recently produced documentary shorts around specific social issues facing their brands.
