Subhasis Sengupta took charge as the new Director (operations) at the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of the Vizag Steel Plant on Wednesday (June 3).An alumnus of The Bengal Engineering & Science University, West Bengal, with an M.Tech from NIT Durgapur, Mr. Sengupta began his career as a management trainee at SAIL in 1992. Before his appointment at RINL, he served as chief general manager (projects) at SAIL’s Durgapur Steel Plant, where he spearheaded brownfield expansions worth over ₹5,500 crore and played a key role in the planning of a 3 MTPA greenfield project estimated at ₹28,000 crore. Notably, as unit head of SAIL Growth Works, he successfully led a turnaround that saw production rise by 51% and turnover by 108%.Mr. Sengupta plans to leverage cutting-edge technologies—including IoT, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning—to drive predictive maintenance and sustainable decarbonisation, ensuring the plant remains competitive in an evolving global steel market.
