Minister for Environment and Climate Change V. Rajeev on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) inspected dyeing and bleaching units, a tannery, an edible oil refinery and waterbodies in different parts of the district and warned of stringent action against industries found violating pollution-control norms.The Minister visited dyeing and bleaching units in Karungalpalayam, Vairapalayam and Sunnambu Odai, a tannery in R.N. Pudur and an edible oil refinery in Moolakarai. During the inspection, he reviewed the functioning of effluent treatment plants (ETPs) and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems in the industrial units. He directed industries to ensure the continuous and efficient operation of the treatment facilities and to reuse all treated water within their premises.The Minister said action would be taken under the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board regulations and through the district-level coordination mechanism if industries failed to comply with environmental norms. He warned that immediate action would be initiated against units found discharging untreated effluents.Later, he inspected the common effluent treatment plant (CETP) for dyeing units at the SIPCOT Industrial Estate in Perundurai. He instructed officials and plant management to ensure the effective operation of the treatment facility and full reuse of treated water. He also inspected seepage water flowing through Nalla Odai in the estate and reviewed preliminary works for a common treatment facility proposed to extract, treat and reuse groundwater in the industrial area. Acting on representations from the public, he directed SIPCOT officials to expedite the project.Erode West MLA K.K. Ananth Moghan, Modakkurichi MLA D.
